Magical Enhancement 'The Gift of ________'

  ------------------------THE GIFT---------------------------

I came up with the idea that PC's can earn a favor from the gods, delivered to the PC's to enhance their traits, hence the name 'The Gift of _____', where the underline is filled in with whichever stat that needs a bump.

This very rare endowment is offered to the PC('s) by someone they have never met before, and are, understandably, hesitant about taking any 'gift' offered. The gifter will come in the form of an ugly, bedraggled person, male or female, who appears to be about one missed meal from death.  In actuality, the gifter is a disciple of a major god/goddess who has deemed they be worthy of a powerful gift.  For the 'gift' to work, it has to be accepted by the recipient(s) to be effective.

If it is coerced or stolen from the gifter, the effects of the 'gift' are reversed (e.g. A d4 is rolled, and that score is SUBTRACTED from the affected stat), although the PC is not told of the harmful effects until the gift is either put on, burned or drank (DM can stipulate the form of the gift - a drink, a necklace, cape, etc). The negative effects may be reversed if the affected PC's publicly prostrate, admitting their indescretions, and call on the god/goddess to forgive them their weakness, whereupon the 'gift' may, or may not, be dispelled.  There is a 50% chance of reversal if the PC has shown true repentence.  If the affected rolls well enough, the effects will be restored to normal (e.g. the roll becomes, once again, a positive for the PC instead of the subtraction as was the result of the gift not being accepted in the first place.

DM has the option to allow a PC who has rolled a d4+1, and the results with the max of a 4 on the d4, and adds the+1, resulting in a +5, to split the bonus up and add to several stats.  This is merely an option the DM may use, if so inclined.

--------THE GIFT NAMES--------

  • Power - Strength increased by 1d4+1 (minimum of +2)
  • Speed - Move increased by 50% to the Base Move speed (e.g. 30' becomes 45')
  • Agility - Dex increased by 1d4+1 (minimum of +2)
  • Tough - Con increased by 1d4+1 (minimum of+2)
  • Brains - Intelligence or Wisdom increased by 1d4+1 (minimum of +2)
  • Looks - Charisma increased by 1d4+2 (min of +2)

-----There is another gift that could be given to the PC('s).  A gift so rare as to have never been heard of ever being given as a gift.  It is THE GIFT OF NATURAL ARMOR +6. Your skin becomes as tough as steel, yet you still move, run, and jump as normal.  Truly, a rare gift, indeed.
